The Maria Callas Scholarships Society is the only institution that bears the name of the great artist, founded by her, when, sensitive to the needs of her young colleagues, Maria Callas generously offered her pay from her historical performances at the Ancient Theatre of Epidaurus for the establishment of scholarships to young Greek artists.

The realisation of this vision was entrusted to her distinguished friends, including Kostis Bastias, Christos Lambrakis, Alexandra Trianti and her classmate Arda Mandikian, President of the Association since 1976. Thus, the Association regularly announces competitions and awards scholarships for completing studies abroad to talented lyrical singers, while at the same time follows their progress and development with personal interest.

Since 2009, after the loss of both Arda Mandikian and Christos Lambrakis, who were the pioneers and main financiers of the Maria Callas Scholarships, the Association continues the work in the footsteps of its founders. Jeanette Pilou, a distinguished soprano, Vice President of the Board of Directors and Member of the jury of the competitions, Christos Lambrakis and Vasso Devetzi, the President of the Maria Callas International Foundation, provided personal support to fellows, both during their studies and in promoting their careers.

The Association operates today thanks to the donations of friends and members and always with the valuable support of the Friends of Music Society. It is housed in the Athens Concert Hall and is headed by a five-member Council elected by its General Assembly.

The Board of Directors of the Maria Callas Scholarships Society consists of:

Konstantinos Pylarinos (President), Lukas Karytinos (Vice President), Kyriakos Loukakos (Gen. Secretary), George Kouroupos (Treasurer) and Aris Christofellis (Member).

Since 2022, Alexia Voulgaridou, Lukas Karytinos, Giorgos Kouroupos, Miltos Logiadis and Aris Christofellis participate in the jury of the Maria Callas Competitions.
